Eleven climbers in Indonesia were found dead after the eruption of the Marapi volcano in western Sumatra on Monday, a rescue official said, as the search for 12 other missing people was temporarily halted due to safety concerns.
Search and rescue team spokeswoman Jody Haryavan said three survivors were found on Monday along with the bodies of 11 climbers, of whom there were 75 climbers in the area at the time of Sunday’s eruption.
The 2,891 meter (9,485 feet) high volcano spewed ash up to 3 km high into the sky on Sunday.
