ATN Bangla is the first private television channel in Bangladesh; it started its transmission by buying air time from an Indian television channel. Now ATN is a full television channel, a new channel ATN news has also started.
It is alleged that chairman of these television channels Mahfujur Rahman made an unacceptable comment during his recent London visit. He said, people of Sylhet are now gentlemen, they don’t speak in their typical local Bangla now. This comment angered local people. Many social and cultural organizations demanded apology from him and asked to stop transmission of his two television channels.
Amid this demand and fury local cable operators have stopped the transmission of ATN Bangla and ATN News.
Few days ago another comment by ATN chairman was criticized heavily; he commented, killing of journalist Sagar and Runi was due to unethical relationship. There was a wave of criticism after this comment. Later he apologized for his comment.
