A New York grand jury indicted Trump on Thursday over a hush-hush payment of $130,000 made to a porn star during the 2016 campaign to buy her silence.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing and accused Bragg, a Democrat, of waging a “political witch-hunt” to derail his new White House bid.

Anticipating his impeachment, Trump called for protests and warned that it could lead to “potential death and destruction” for the country.

And in a statement, the former president said he had already raised $4 million for his 2024 presidential campaign in the 24 hours following news of the indictment.

Additional security has been deployed for days around the downtown Manhattan courthouse where Trump is to be booked and the New York Police Department said on Friday that there was “no current credible threat” to the city.

Trump survived two impeachments while in the White House and kept prosecutors at bay from the US Capitol riot to the disappearance of classified files – only to land in court over a sex scandal involving 44-year-old adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

He is facing criminal investigations related to classified files both in Georgia and in Washington related to the 2020 election and the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol by his supporters.

Top Republicans have rallied around the former president, who remains the favorite to win the 2024 presidential nomination.
