The minister said as a resident of the southern region he wanted the lodge which houses countless memories of the poet to be made a university as it was a demand of the residents of southern part of the country. He said he would talk about the matter with government’s policy makers soon.
The minister said this while addressing the inaugural function of a three-day programme arranged to mark the 153rd birth anniversary Rabindarnath Tagore. The programme began yesterday.
The programme features discussions, workshops, singing, poetry recitation and “Rabindra Fair.
The Kuthibari has been decorated and small repair works have been done ahead of the festivity.
Dr Abdul Hakim Sarkar, vice-chancellor of Islamic University, Bangladesh, Anowar Ali, mayor of Kushtia municipality, KM Rahatul Islam, CEO of Kushtia District Council, Shamsuzzaman Aronno, mayor of Kumarkhali municipality, and Golam Mohsin, chairperson of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal’s Kushtia wing, was present as special guests. Syed Belal Hossain, deputy commissioner of Kushtia, presided over the inaugural fuction.
Dr Abul Ahsan Chowdhury, professor at the Bangla Department of Islamic University, addressed the inaugural ceremony.
