Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday that the attacks targeted Ukraine’s military and energy facilities, while also disrupting “transfers of arms and ammunition of foreign production”.
“All the designated targets were hit,” the ministry said at its daily briefing.
Russia fired 74 — mainly cruise — missiles on Friday, 60 of which were shot down by anti-aircraft defenses, according to Ukraine’s military.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacks affected electricity and water supplies in Kyiv and 14 regions.
Regional officials said their air defense forces shot down 37 of the 40 missiles.
In the central town of Kryvyi Rih, where Zelensky was born, Friday’s airstrikes targeted a residential building.
Governor Valentin Reznichenko said on Saturday that the missiles killed a 64-year-old woman and a young couple with a son, injuring 13 others.
To the south, fresh Russian shelling in Kherson, recently captured by Ukraine, killed a 36-year-old man and wounded a 70-year-old woman, governor Yaroslav Yanushevich said Saturday morning.
He later said a separate attack was carried out in the village of Stepanivka, just north of Kherson, but there were no reports of casualties.
Kherson has come under frequent Russian shelling since Moscow’s forces retreated in November, and earlier this week electricity was cut off in the city.
