Amnesty International stressed that extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances have continued with worrying frequency over the past five years, even as governments have taken steps to prevent, investigate and bring to justice those responsible for these human rights crimes. Since then, Amnesty International has investigated and documented a clear pattern of enforced disappearances followed by extrajudicial executions by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), which reportedly took place under the guise of an anti-drug campaign in 2018, at least 466 people were murdered.
She believes that the government here should immediately ratify the Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and accept the request of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances to make an official visit to Bangladesh .
Also, the government should promptly, thoroughly, impartially, independently, effectively and transparently investigate the allegations of disappearances leveled against law enforcement agencies, particularly members of the RAB, ahead of the general elections in January 2024.
