Retail markets have again become volatile after another round of rice price hike. Although the government is monitoring, there is no effect. Daily essential commodities like flour, pulses, edible oil and sugar are stable at high prices.
The prices of fish, meat and eggs are also quite high. Broiler chicken is sold at Rs 200 to 210 per kg, Sonali chicken at Rs 310 to 330 and beef at Rs 650 to 700 per kg.
Compared to last week, the price of eggs has increased by 5 taka per dozen. Brown eggs are sold at 130 to 135 taka per dozen. Farmed tilapia and pangas fishes are being sold at 220 to 250 taka per kilogram. The price of farmed salmon fishes ranges between 300 to 400 taka depending on the size.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, Abdul Khalek from Shahjahanpur area of the capital said, “The price of anything is not reduced. Although the price of beef had gone down a bit for a few weeks, it has gone back up again. Vegetables have never been this expensive.”
