The US ambassador to Dhaka, Peter Haas, is confronted by the families of soldiers who disappeared during the regime of Ziaur Rahman, the first military ruler of Bangladesh and founder of the BNP.
The families, under the banner of Maiar Kanna or A Mother’s Tears, on Wednesday tried to submit a memorandum to BNP leader Sajedul Islam Suman, an alleged victim of enforced disappearance, at Shaheen Bagh in the capital when he visited his house.
Suman’s mother, Afroza Islam, is the coordinator of Ankhi Maiar Dak, or A Mother’s Call, an organization of families who have disappeared in recent years under the Awami League government.
Members of Mayer Kanna had started gathering outside Suman’s house in the morning even before the arrival of the US envoy.
