The US embassy in Dhaka has said it raised security concerns with the highest levels of the Bangladesh government after Ambassador Peter Haas faced demonstrations by families of soldiers who went missing under the rule of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
An embassy spokesman said on Sunday that Haas also raised the matter at the Bangladesh embassy in Washington after Haas encountered protesters holding the banner of ‘Mayer Kanna’ or ‘A Mother’s Tears’ during a visit to the home of BNP leader Sajedul Islam Suman. raised. Suman’s mother, Afroza Islam, is the coordinator of Mair Dak, or A Mother’s Call, an organization of families of those who have disappeared in recent years under the Ankhi Awami League government.
An embassy spokesperson said the US ambassador canceled his scheduled meeting with Mayor Dak on 14 December due to security concerns.
