Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said he has been in contact with the FAA.
“I have been in contact with the FAA this morning regarding an outage affecting a critical system for providing safety information to pilots,” he tweeted.
“The FAA is working to resolve this issue swiftly and safely so that air traffic can resume normal operations, and will continue to provide updates.”
The halt comes in the wake of a massive aviation slowdown in the United States during the Christmas holiday, as the storm brought unseasonably cold temperatures to much of the country and caused chaos, delaying or canceling thousands of flights.
Hard-hit Southwest Airlines canceled more than 15,000 flights in eight days over a fault in its scheduling system.
