Top US military official General Dan Kane said on Wednesday that the United States was attacking southern Iran at the time.
The map he presented indicated that an area including Minab was targeted by attacks in the first 100 hours of the operation, the Times reported.
Kane said Israel is primarily operating further north in Iran.
According to 2013 satellite images reviewed by the Times, the school was once part of an IRGC naval base.
However, the newspaper said that publicly available historical satellite imagery “shows that the structure retains the identity of a school, including a playing field and other recreational areas that were added over time.”
“Given America’s intelligence capabilities, they should have known there was a school nearby,” Beth Van Schaack, a former State Department official who teaches at Stanford University’s Center for Human Rights and International Justice, told the Times.
