US, UK, Canada absent as observers in 12th Bangladesh parliamentary election

When asked, a US Embassy spokesperson informed Prothom Alo via an SMS that the US did not observe the January 7 election. Many American citizens came to Bangladesh to observe the elections and worked freelance for themselves or for their respective organizations. The American government has nothing to do with his statement.

A spokesperson for the UK High Commission in Dhaka also informed this correspondent through an SMS that many UK citizens had come to Bangladesh independently. Britain did not send any mission to Bangladesh to observe the elections. Other poll observation missions that have come to Bangladesh have been independent. The British government has no connection with them.
