United States proposals to end the war in Iran have been sent to Tehran through Pakistani intermediaries, two senior officials in Islamabad told AFP on Wednesday.
The confirmation came as US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about ending the nearly month-long conflict and Tehran announced it would allow “non-hostile” oil ships through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
Pakistan is being seen as a potential mediator given its long-term relations with both neighboring Iran and the United States, as well as close contacts in the region.
The 15-point US plan to prevent fighting spreading across the Middle East was “given to Iran through Pakistan”, said two Pakistani officials, requesting anonymity because they were not permitted to speak publicly on the matter.
