Walmart is one of the biggest buyers of Bangladeshi readymade garments and readymade garments sector is the biggest source of foreign exchange for Bangladesh.
The working condition of Bangladeshi garments factories has always been questionable. Fire safety precautions are absent in many factories.
After the recent mishap in Tazrin fashion at Savar, Walmart canceled their work order. More than one hundred workers died in that incident and according to primary report death toll is high due lack of safety precautions.

Now it is revealed that Walmart avoided paying for fire safety measures in factories.

It was in a meeting on safety in garments factories in April, 2011. Walmart said they will not bear the expense.

Bangladeshi readymade garments manufacturers always say they want to pay more and improve working conditions in factories, but the buyers abroad do not pay for that.

Walmart authority refused to comment on the latest report.
