In the opening match, du Plessis and Virat Kohli, who scored 59, shared an opening partnership of 137 runs to lay the foundation for Bangalore’s 174-4 in Mohali.

Siraj then returned impressive figures of 4-21 as they bowled out Punjab for 150 in 18.2 overs to hand Bangalore their third win in six matches.

Kohli stood in as captain for du Plessis, who had made the team as a batsman in the previous match due to a rib injury and was later substituted under the new impact player rule.

The South African player achieved his target in 56 balls with the help of five sixes. He continues to top the batting charts of the tournament with 343 runs, including four half-centuries.

Warner is second with 285 runs and Kohli is third with 279 runs.
