CISC said it is continuing to collect information and is seeking an independent and impartial judicial inquiry.

The CISC said that alleged extrajudicial killings of people have been reported in several areas of Burkina.

A volunteer group supporting the army has been accused of killing 28 people in the country’s northwest on New Year’s Eve.

A landlocked country located in the middle of West Africa’s Sahel, Burkina Faso is one of the most unstable and poor countries in the world. It has experienced repeated coups since gaining independence from France in 1960.

The armed forces are battling a seven-year-old insurgency by jihadists linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group.

The attacks have killed thousands, displaced at least two million, and fueled discontent in the military that led to two coups in 2022.
