What steps is the government taking as unemployment increases?
The question of whether unemployment is a problem in our country or not is no longer a matter of debate. If one looks at the number of applicants to Bangladesh Cadre Service (BCS) or any other government or non-government job, things become clear. In many cases, even several hundred candidates compete for a single seat.

Considering the above reality, the data presented by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on the country’s workforce is not reliable at all. BBS data said the number of unemployed people increased by 40,000 in the last three months of last year. Along with this, BBS shows the number of unemployed people in the country after October-December quarter to be 2.35 million. Of these, males are 1.5 million (15,70,000) and females are 780,000. According to BBS data, the number of unemployed people in the country at the end of 2022 was 2.31 million.

Economists do not agree with the BBS figures. He believes the actual number of unemployed people is several lakhs. Fahmida Khatoon, executive director of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), told Prothom Alo that all government figures, including the number of unemployed people, investments, etc., are suspect.
