Shishir Manir said, “Normally, if the candidate standing first in a constituency is disqualified, the candidate standing second is declared elected. However, we will know after the full judgment is published whether the Appellate Division gives any specific direction beyond this.”

However, Attorney General Mohammad Ruhul Quddus Kazal believes that Aslam Chaudhary will not face any legal hurdle in contesting the election if fresh elections are held in Chattogram-4 constituency.

Responding to a question from journalists in his office after the Appellate Division verdict, the Attorney General said, “Look, the disqualification of a person for a specific period does not last for life. Even though the appeal was successful in respect of the previous election, which means that despite being elected he will not be able to enjoy the result of that election, if he removes the ground of disqualification and becomes eligible before the next election, there should be no legal impediment preventing him from contesting the election as a candidate.”
