Who will control the middlemen? Low income and middle income people are suffering in Bangladesh

Low income and middle income people are facing the most problems due to the increase in prices of essential commodities in Bangladesh. They are living on credit or buying less essential things. The inflation rate has crossed 12 percent, which is the lowest in the last 11 years.

Due to increase in the prices of pulses, eggs, oil and sugar, the common people began to depend on vegetables and fruits. Although the price of seasonal fruits was slightly lower during the harvest period, now the price is higher. On the other hand, prices of vegetables are skyrocketing. No vegetable is sold below 70 taka.

According to the Agricultural Marketing Department, the production cost of one kg brinjal is a little more than Rs 10. However, this vegetable is sold ten times more in the kitchen market of the capital. This is also true in the case of bitter gourd, pumpkin, cucumber and parwal.

Although consumers buy at a higher price, the producer or farmer does not get a fair price. The price of vegetables is increasing due to abnormal transportation costs, extortion and commission trading in the wholesale market. Cultivation of winter vegetables has been delayed due to rain in the first two weeks of October.
