Questioning what changes have occurred in Bangladesh’s communications system as a result of the agreement with US-based internet service provider Starlink, Anu Muhammad said, “Given their (interim government’s) unusual enthusiasm in signing these agreements, it seems that even though they were advisors or special assistants, they effectively acted as lobbyists for various companies.”
Anu Muhammad called on the new government to reconsider the trade agreements, saying that these agreements could push Bangladesh’s economic future towards a major crisis.
He stressed that it is important to initiate discussions at the national level and reconsider the agreements if necessary.
Addressing the BNP government, Anu Muhammad said, “Sober Aage Bangladesh (First and foremost, Bangladesh) – If Tariq Rahman’s slogan is to be taken seriously, the first task is to clear the way as to how Bangladesh can be freed from these agreements. Those who carried out these agreements must be held accountable and brought to justice.”
