Although it was planned that 40 percent of the fertilizer produced from the factory would be transported by railways, work on laying the rail line has not yet been started. So, what could be more unfortunate than the fact that despite building such a huge factory with huge costs, it failed to produce proper output?
The case of the newly constructed Chatak Cement Factory also shows that the time limit of the project costing 6.67 billion taka (667 crores) has been extended from three years to seven years. Besides, the cost of the project has also been doubled.
Although the factory equipped with new technology is all set to go into production, there is uncertainty about when it will start production due to the complexities of setting up gas lines, importing stones from India and setting up ropeways for imports. Uncertainties have arisen.
Start work expeditiously by ensuring gas supply to Ghorasal Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory and Chhatak Cement Factory. It is unfortunate that factories are not opened even after construction is completed. This only wastes precious public money. Good governance and accountability will have to be established in all areas of government projects.
