Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas, in plain clothes, were detained at around 3 am from their residence in the capital, their families and the party said.
The Standing Committee of the BNP called a meeting on this evolving situation.
Speaking to Prothom Alo on Friday morning, Iqbal Hasan Mehmood said, “The BNP Standing Committee meeting has been called due to the unwanted situation. The next step of the party will be discussed in the meeting.
“We know that the government will obstruct us, yet we will hit the streets. We will rally in Dhaka on 10th December at any cost.
After the completion of nine divisional rallies, the BNP is set to hold a party rally in Dhaka on 10 December. The BNP wanted to hold the rally in front of the party’s headquarters in Naya Paltan, but the Dhaka Metropolitan Police allowed them to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
