The forest is located along a road originating from the Salimpur Bayazid-Fauzdarhat Link Road, opposite the Asian Women’s University, which leads towards the hills. This area is mainly divided into two parts – Jungle Salimpur and Alinagar.
According to the district administration, there is about 3100 acres of government land here. Over the years the area has been under the control of various land grabbers and armed groups.
On March 9 this year, about 3,200 personnel of the Army, RAB, police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) launched a joint operation and took control of the area for the first time. Previous attempts had failed, with police and administrative officials having come under attack during earlier operations.
