A salesman was stabbed to death allegedly by employees of other shops over previous enmity at East Bengal Supermarket near Dhaka’s Sadarghat on Saturday.
The victim, Mitul, 20, was the son of Md Russel Sardar of Sahabangol village in Jhalakathi Sadar upazila, said police.
He used to live on the 13th floor of the East Bengal Supermarket.
Quoting witnesses, Sutrapur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mehmenul Islam told The Daily Star that around 8:30pm, a group of employees of different shops went to the 13th floor, where Mitul was staying, and stabbed him in the chest with a pair of scissors.
Two days ago, Mitul allegedly slapped someone from the market during a quarrel, the inspector said.
Police went to the spot after receiving information, recovered the body and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Several hundred agitated people, including the victim’s relatives, brought out a procession from Sadarghat to Mitford Hospital and chanted slogans.
Mitul was a Jatiotabadi Swechchhasebak Dal activist of Dhaka Metropolitan South’s Ward 37, said Muftizul Kabir Keeron, former Chhatra Dal joint general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South, who is now involved with Swechchhasebak Dal politics.
