12th National Elections: Lack of interest in non-competitive elections Election Day events and voter turnout

This election has revealed some truths. First of all, if all the parties do not participate in the elections then people have no interest in them. The public’s decision is not reflected in such elections. Secondly, competition in elections is not only between individuals. Principles, ideas and programs are important here. All the independent candidates competing against Awami League candidates in Sunday’s election are Awami League workers. Even some parties, including the Jatiya Party, took part in the elections through negotiations with the Awami League.

Actually, the election was held between the Awami League, independent candidates loyal to the Awami League and parties dependent on the Awami League. The biggest thing is that everyone already knew the election results.
This election may maintain the continuity of the Constitution, but the lack of acceptance will remain.

This lack of acceptance can create many obstacles in the overall development and progress of the country in the future. The present government is going to take power again. Now it remains to be seen how they handle issues like handling the economy in these circumstances, controlling inflation, taking steps against corruption and bringing back discipline in the banking sector.
