The Election Commission (EC) has approved 20,773 local election observers to monitor elections across the country in the next parliamentary election to be held on January 7.
Of them, 517 observers were approved at the central level while 20,256 were approved at the regional level, EC Director (Public Relations) Shariful Alam said on Thursday.
He said, the Election Commission gave the approval as per the relevant law.
He said central election observers can obtain their identity cards and vehicle stickers from the Election Commission Secretariat, while others will have to obtain cards and stickers from the offices of the returning officers.
The PR director said that a committee will be formed with returning officers and assistant returning officers and they will provide cards and stickers after proper scrutiny following the guidelines.
