24 people died due to rising temperatures in India

Three people died of suspected heatstroke in Jharkhand, a neighbouring state of Bihar, according to local media.

In Delhi, where birds and wild monkeys are fainting or falling sick due to high temperatures, the city zoo is relying on pools and sprinklers to provide relief to its 1,200 residents.

“We have adopted summer management diet, which includes more liquid diet along with all seasonal fruits and vegetables that contain more water,” zoo director Sanjeet Kumar told news agency ANI.

Delhi hit 45.4 degrees Celsius on Friday afternoon, recorded its first heat-related death this week and is facing severe water shortage.
