Bangladeshi mobile phone operators including the state owned mobile operator Teletalk is using 2G or 2.5G technology. It was a longstanding demand that Bangladesh should have 3G technology.
3G technology offers high speed data connectivity and hence user can get high speed internet, 3G technology also enables mobile TV, video call and many other equipments including navigation equipment. Many countries of the world have already started to introduce 4G, which is much improved technology.
The telecom ministry is finalizing a draft on 3G guidelines. The ministry is hoping to finalize the draft guideline on October. After getting feedback from the regulatory body Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and other stakeholders including the phone companies the guide line is expected to be finalized on December next. Then auction will be hosted on January. Teletalk will get the license without participating in the auction, but it will have to pay fee according to the auction rate. Teletalk will start its 3G service on October.
This guideline will also be applicable for 4G and LTE technology.
