Analysis of the election results revealed that 236 out of 263 JPA candidates lost their security deposits. Those 236 seats include seven seats negotiated with AL. They are: Nilphamari-3, Rangpur-1, Bogura-3, Pirojpur-3, Dhaka-18, Brahmanbaria-2 and Chattogram-8. JAPA candidates contested against Awami League leaders, who contested the seats as independent candidates.
According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), a candidate has to deposit Taka 20,000 as security deposit before contesting the election. If the candidate fails to get at least one eighth of the votes, he loses the money.
Analysis of the election results also shows that only 16 of the 11 Japa candidates who won the election could secure enough votes to save the security money.
In the 12th general election, 195 candidates of JPA got less than 5,000 votes. Of these, 88 got less than 1,000 marks. However, three candidates from the party received more than 100,000 votes and were elected MPs.
