Prime minister Sheikh Hasina visited Bashar air base yesterday. The top air force officials were present on the occasion. They talked on some allowances, postings and ranking issues. They said some posts in the ministry of defense are dominated by the army, but navy and air force officials should also have this type of opportunity.
Army chief post is equivalent to general. But navy and air force chief post is equivalent to lieutenant general. They say all there chiefs should have general equivalent ranking.
In reply no specific assurance was given by the prime minister, but she said all of these posts were equivalent after the independence, which was changed later. She mentioned some of the initiatives by her government to modernize the air force.
In Bangladesh army is the largest force compared to navy and air force. Some other top positions like director of medical college hospital, drug administration are often held by army officers. The fire brigade, border guard, Bangladesh national cadet core are run under the supervision of army officers.
