Although there are differences between Bangladesh and the US regarding the 12th National Parliament elections, both the countries are keen to advance their relations. US President Joe Biden wrote a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressing his desire to advance relations between the two countries. Under this, a top level delegation from America is coming to Dhaka next Sunday.
According to diplomatic sources, the US had told Bangladesh last October that exchange of visits at various levels between the two countries would begin after the elections. Under this process, the US delegation will visit Bangladesh after the government assumes power.
Despite statements by the US State Department on a regular basis, Bangladesh has taken the US President's letter seriously. The government feels that after Awami League coming to power for the fourth consecutive time, America is not putting forward the issues regarding the general elections in Bangladesh. He believes the visit by the top-level US delegation is a reflection of the 'post-election understanding' between the two countries.
