Entrepreneurs in Chattogram, where heavy industrial steel, cement and glass factories are concentrated around the port, are facing challenges due to lack of gas supply. These factories were strategically located near ports for convenient transportation of raw materials.
However, the current gas crisis is causing disruptions in production and entrepreneurs are struggling to operate at 50 per cent of their capacity.
The gas crisis in Chattogram started in November and production has been continuously disrupted since then. Due to technical glitch at around 10 pm on Thursday, entrepreneurs had to close many factories due to stoppage of gas supply from the LNG terminal.
Although supplies resumed after the terminal was repaired, the gas crisis persists, leading to a 30 to 50 percent decline in production in heavy industries.
