Chattogram University suspends 18 students for conspiring to clash, sabotage

In August 2022, university authorities detained law student Mohammad Jobair Hussain on charges of destabilizing the campus. Jobair, after being taken into custody, identified himself as an activist of the Islamic Student Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. Later his connection with the Student Rights Council came to the fore.

Sheikh Abdur Razzaq, chief security officer of the university, had earlier filed a case against Jobair at Hathazari police station for planning to vandalize the campus.

University officials expelled Jobair for two years after discovering his links to extremist networks and evidence of plans to sabotage the university’s shuttle trains.

Arsheel Azim Niloy of the Public Administration Department and Shoaib Mohammad Ateeq of the Anthropology Department have been suspended for one year each for assaulting a journalist, who is also a student of the university, on September 26.
