Corruption in Bangladesh’s business environment: CPD survey reveals key challenges in 2023

Despite various steps and schemes of the government, the business environment in Bangladesh has not improved, which is evident from the survey conducted by research organization Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD). Unveiling the survey report ‘State of Business Environment in Bangladesh-2023’, the organization highlighted 17 problems. About 68 percent of businessmen in the country consider corruption as the biggest problem for business and commerce. The second ranking problem is inefficient bureaucracy.

Other problems include inadequate infrastructure, high inflation, lack of money, borders, complex tax policy, frequent changes in policies, lack of skilled workforce, lack of innovative capacity, high tax rates, climate change, government instability, prohibitive labor Law and the poor are involved. Public health care system.

Earlier in the survey of Bangladesh Business Climate Index (BBCX)-2022-23, it was said that it has become difficult for businessmen to take loans from banks. Harassment in tax and VAT payment has increased. In such a situation there are two types of problems. Despite fulfilling all the conditions, small businessmen do not get loans. On the other hand, there are also examples of big businessmen taking loans through influence but not returning them.
