Domains of at least 11 government websites are being used to promote online betting. To verify the information, Digital Rights initiative 'DismissLab' has found more than 3,000 web pages linked to these websites.
These pages are mainly redirecting customers to four betting websites. Dismislab published a report in this regard on Monday titled “Bangladesh government websites filled with thousands of betting pages”. The report details how government websites are being used to promote online betting and how customers are being redirected to betting websites.
All government websites run under a domain called 'gov.bd'. DismissLab's report says that a primary Google search using keywords such as 'casino' and 'betting' under the 'gov.bd' domain, as well as checking the sitemaps of the websites found in the search results, revealed a total of 3,295 betting pages on official websites of major government offices, educational institutions and defence entities.
