The Martyred Intellectuals’ Cemetery in Mirpur, Dhaka, is a cemetery where some of the Birshrestha (gallant war heroes) and intellectuals killed by the occupying Pakistani army and their collaborators during the liberation war in 1971 were laid to eternal rest. Many other eminent persons of contemporary times are also buried there. The cemetery has a wide open space, which is rare in Dhaka. We usually get to see the premises on special occasions, when everything is neat, tidy and organized. But how about a normal day? Photographs taken by Shamim Raza will provide a glimpse of this.
