A high court bench has issued a show cause notice to government organization, Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution to explain in four weeks why their inaction in withdrawing 52 substandard and adulterated food items would not be declared illegal.  The same government institution has tested 406 food products from the market and test results of 313 food products were published in the beginning of the month, of which 52 food items were found substandard or adulterated. But the government organization did nothing to withdraw these food items from the market. They neither did take any punitive steps against these manufacturers.

In response to a writ petition filed by a non-government organization ‘Conscious Consumers Society’ the High Court issued the order today. The High Court bench also ordered Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection to submit a compliance on next hearing date.
