Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been appointed the eighth national Test captain of Bangladesh cricket team while Mahmudullah has been made his deputy by Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday.
The decision was taken in the 34th executive board meeting the same day.
The meeting finalised the names of the duo for the upcoming series against West Indies and Pakistan and also chalked down a 23-men preliminary squad for the West Indies series. Regarding the appointments, BCB Media and Communications Committee Chairman Jalal Yunus said, “This was a unanimous decision of the Board. The BCB President and Chairman of Cricket Operations Committee have spoken to both the cricketers and they have accepted the roles.”
