CEC Qazi Habibul Awal said, “We see a lack of discipline due to emotions being at the center of elections. We have to ensure that voters can cast their votes without any hassle. We have to conduct fair elections at any cost.”

“If we are unsuccessful in this election, the democratic stability and continuity achieved through previous parliamentary elections could be at risk. By holding fair elections, we have to prove that democracy still exists in Bangladesh.

Initially this meeting was open to journalists. After this there was a closed room discussion for about three hours.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, EC Secretary Jahangir Alam said, “There is more competition in local government elections as there are more candidates than in general elections. We will increase law enforcement in upazila elections. If any situation arises anywhere, we will take action accordingly.

Asked if there was any discussion on the possibility of local MPs and ministers influencing the elections, the Election Commission secretary said, “They have requested us to take measures to ensure that everyone follows the rules. The Commission has also assured them that it will take the issue to the concerned authorities.
