Abantika, a student of JNU's law department for the academic year 2017-18, hanged herself at her Cumilla residence around 10:00 pm on Friday night after accusing her classmate Amman and assistant proctor Deen Islam in a Facebook post.

Hours after Abantika's death by suicide, massive protests broke out in the university and continued till Saturday morning demanding justice for the student.

In the face of student agitation, the university authorities were forced to remove the assistant proctor from the post and suspend the student to quell the agitation.
