Long awaited Dhaka Metrorail may be launched on 16th December, 2021. Replying to a question from a law maker, Road Transport and Bridges minister informed this to the parliament. Bangladesh has taken a project to build six Metrorail by 2030 in its capital Dhaka to ease traffic congestion. First phase of the project will be completed by connecting Uttara and Motijheel area of the capital. This twenty kilometer long route will have sixteen landing stations will be capable of carrying sixty thousand commuters per hour. Nine kilometer viaduct is already visible and about sixty percent work from Uttara to Agargoan section is already completed.
Transport experts has long been pushing for mass transit projects to ease traffic congestion in the capital and they also discouraged private car friendly flyover projects as it is wastage of public money.
Bangladesh railway has already started training of sixty Metrorail drivers. Though its effectiveness is questioned. Because Bangladesh railway training manual is not designed for Metrorail drivers.
