The BNP leader was arrested on 29 October. Later, bail was sought from the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka. But the court rejected the petition that day and sent him to jail.
Addressing the court that day, Mirza Fakhrul’s lawyer Syed Joynul Abedin said that the BNP general secretary was ill. He has been made an accused only for torture.
Another lawyer Omar Farooqui told the court that on October 28, Mirza Fakhrul was on the main stage, which falls under the jurisdiction of Paltan police station. He is in no way involved in the vandalism and throwing of bricks and stones at the house of the Chief Justice which falls under the jurisdiction of Ramana police station.
