New SIM card will not be required for Grameen Phone 3G

GPThe largest mobile phone operator of Bangladesh, Grameen Phone is preparing for the third generation (3G) technology. They are saying, they have already taken preparation for it. They are planning to start the service in some selected areas of Dhaka and Chittagong in next month. All the areas of Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayangonj will be covered by 3G network within November. All seven divisional headquarters will have 3G within December and within March 2014 entire country will be under Grameen Phone 3G network.

Grameen Phone bought 10 MHz in auction, which is the highest. They will spend one thousand six hundred and thirty two crore taka for it. Grameen Phone officials say, their workers are already trained from Sweden and Norway for this new project. They claim their main company Telenor has the experience of providing 3G and 4G service in some other countries in the world.

Grameen Phone’s existing users will get the 3G service using their old 2G SIM card.
