Some taxicabs are introduced in Dhaka recently to ease the transportation sufferings of city dwellers. At the same time new fare chart is also introduced by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). A gazette was published in 22nd April in this regard. The minimum fare will be 85 taka, it is for first two kilometers. Then thirty four taka will be charged for every kilometer. Waiting charge will be eight taka for every two minutes and there will be additional charge of twenty taka for calling taxi cabs over telephone.
Taxi drivers are activating meter just after receiving the phone call. So people are finding cab meters are showing more than one hundred taka before riding the cab. Toma Constructions which has introduced the taxi cabs in the capital has refused to comment on this. Some taxi drivers have said they are doing this because they are instructed by higher ups. BRTA officials say still they don’t have any official complain, they will take action if complain is lodged officially.
