We are familiar with illegal hill digging news. Many powerful people dig hill in the hilly
area for housing project. Police and environmental department of the government are failing
to stop them. Intellectuals like teacher of universities condemn this.
But now the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology is digging hill for their
new building of petroleum and mining department. Yesterday the environment department
officials verbally warned the university authority. They will issue a written warning
letter to the university authority.
This project is approved by the National Economic Council, but not approved by the
environment department. The university grants commission has already sanctioned 3 crore 5
lakh taka for the project.
The university authority is arguing that they are digging only for the base of the new
building. The area will be same as before after the completion of the construction project.
