The air force made an objection earlier to metro rail route along Bijoy Sarani for the take off and landing problems of airplanes. Now the Tejgaon old airport has been declared as the domestic airport.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has silently upgraded the status of Tejgaon airfield from STOL (short take-off and landing) airport to domestic airport. This has made the objection to the metro rail route along Bijoy Sarani yet stronger.
The decision was taken sometime around mid October of this year.
The proposed 19-metre high metro rail along Bijoy Sarani made the Air Force concerned about the project. They have objected as they will have to face problems in operating their airplanes.
An alternative route has been suggested along Khamarbari-Farmgate which may affect the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban complex.
However, the new route is yet to be finalized.
