Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall was expected in those areas and along the coasts of Andhra Pradesh state as well as north, with coastal communities likely to suffer damage to thatched, mud houses and power and communication lines, the IMD said.

As the cyclone moves away from Sri Lanka, the air quality is likely to improve during Friday and Saturday, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) said in a statement.
