Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to inaugurate Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar railway and development projects in Cox’s Bazar

Tourism hub Cox’s Bazar and the entire district is all set to welcome Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she will address a public meeting and inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of more than a dozen development projects in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.

The projects include the much-awaited 102 km long Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar railway line, 1200 MW Matbarari power plant and deep port channel.

There was a festive atmosphere throughout the district town, where the world’s longest sandy beach is located, ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit as temporary gates were erected, banners carrying messages to welcome Bangabandhu’s daughter were put up at important points of the town and Celebrations were waved.

The Prime Minister will formally inaugurate the train service at the newly constructed Cox’s Bazar Railway Station at 11 am. She will start traveling by train on the new railway line from Cox’s Bazar station to Ramu station at 12 noon.

Later she will go to Ramu Cantonment by road at 12.20 pm. From there, the Prime Minister will proceed to Matarbari Deep Sea Port Channel in Maheshkhali Upazila of Cox’s Bazar to attend the inauguration ceremony of the channel at 2.30 pm.

Sheikh Hasina, who is also the Awami League (AL) president, will attend a public meeting at the township grounds of the Matarbari Thermal Power Plant Project at 3.15 pm under the arrangement of the Maheshkhali upazila unit of the AL.

Cox’s Bazar-2 constituency MLA Ashek Ullah Rafiq said the people of Cox’s Bazar district are anxiously waiting to welcome Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the meeting is expected to turn into a human sea.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan visited the Cox’s Bazar Railway Construction Project and the iconic station on Thursday and Friday.
