Rail passengers' anger: Reduce hassles during Eid journey

Around 15,000 tickets allotted for the western zone were sold out before 2:00 pm. About 7,500 tickets for that zone were sold in the first 15 minutes of ticket sales. At the same time, 13,000 tickets were sold by 10:30 am.

From the demand it seems that at least 400,000 (4 lakh) tickets are needed every day for people living in Dhaka and its surrounding areas alone. However, only a little more than 30,000 railway intercity train tickets are sold daily. Counting mail, local and other trains, around 150,000 tickets are allotted for sale across the country.

Acting Director General of Railways, Sardar Shahadat Ali, had said, “Eight pairs of special trains will run on Eid this year.” Why not 16 pairs? On every Eid the railway authorities arrange some special trains which are inadequate compared to the actual requirement.
