Russian state news agency TASS reported today, Sunday, that a Russian naval group has called at Bangladesh’s Chittagong port for the first time in nearly half a century.
According to the TASS correspondent from Chattogram, the naval grouping of the Pacific Fleet includes the large anti-submarine warfare ships Admiral Tributs and Admiral Panteleyev and the sea tanker Pechenga.
Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Mnitsky told TASS that the last time Russian warships called on Bangladesh was 50 years ago in 1971, shortly after the liberation war, to conduct operations to clear the mines of Chittagong port.
